Tinashe’s background in professional songwriting were the beginnings for her to craft her own sound in her solo material – from the opening track on the mixtape; “The Last Night On Earth”, a dramatic mid-tempo which finds Tinashe as a girl who has found her true love on the last night before the world ends, to the heart-wrenching “I Tried”, In Case We Die is a plethora of R&B-flavored indie pop with haunting melodies throughout.

The project in its entirety was written and executive produced by Tinashe herself. “This music, these visuals…they’re all direct reflections of me. I direct, I write, I produce…I want my music to show exactly who I am.”

“To me, the beauty of “In Case We Die” is its rawness– I literally shut myself in my room, day and night for a month and did the whole thing myself. Because of that, the songs are honest. They came straight from my heart… and that’s where I think there is magic.”

The project’s inspiration was drawn from death, and the last words leaving an honest and brave body of work. “I was very inspired by the thought of a lover’s last words before death– bearing their soul and their secrets before it was too late. …and trying to capture that half-fear we all secretly have that the inevitable is sooner than we are ready for.”
